International Myeloma Foundation - Complete Information

The International Myeloma Foundation was founded in the year 1990. It is a non-profit organization founded by three people. They are Mr. Brian Novis, who was himself diagnoses with multiple myeloma when he was 33 years old, his wife Mrs. Susie Novis, who supported him throughout and his doctor Dr. Brian G. M. Durie, M.D. Mr. Brian Novis passed away in the year 1992 but the International Myeloma Foundation continued to work to support and serve myeloma patients. Mrs. Susie Novis is serving IMF as foundation President and Dr. Brian G. M. Durie as the Chairman of the Board of Directors.

Information And Care Provided by IMF On Myeloma
This organization not only supports patients with myeloma, they also provide the much needed help and information to the patients’ family members, physicians, caretakers of the patients and nurses. The organization mainly provides information, education to the concerned people, conduct research, provide general support and advocacy in regards to the disease. Based in North Hollywood, California, the International Myeloma Foundation already has a membership count of 195,000 people spread in 113 countries according its annual report of 2011. This organization arranges for regular programs for people related to the patients.

Programs And Facilities By IMF
These programs include seminars to educate them on the disease and the ways to take care of the patients, toll free hotline number for providing emergency support to the patients, multilingual publications to make people of all over the world aware of this disease, sponsoring patients and providing government advocacy. In 2008, it introduced a new system over the web which is known as Personal Information Management application where the patient or their caregivers can update record of the treatment and care given to the myeloma patient which would simplify the treatment procedure.

Research Conducted By IMF
In the world, approximately 20,000 new cases are diagnosed with multiple myeloma cancer every year. The International Myeloma Foundation therefore engages itself in different researches to find out ways to treat this disease successfully. They also maintain a tissue bank and a myeloma gene project. They also have an International Myeloma Working Group, which conducts research all over the world regarding myeloma so that they can collaborate with a wide range of projects related to myeloma. It is to be noted that in 1994, this organization had formed Brian D. Novis Research Grants program, which is for providing funds for both junior and senior investigators to research on the disease myeloma.

Fundraising For IMF
The fundraising for the International Myeloma Foundation is done through the event of the annual Comedy Celebration, the income from which goes directly to the Peter Boyle Memorial fund. This event is held in the month of November every year. This organization falls under 501(c) non-profit organization in the USA as decided by the IRS. The best part is that this organization is completely dedicated to the well being of the myeloma patients so that their quality of life increases and by finding ways to cure the disease. They have made it their responsibility to make people aware of any development in their research for multiple myeloma treatment.
